Babe Ruth Archie

ODESSA Babe Ruth Archie, 80, of Odessa, passed away October 14, 2014 in Odessa.
Visitation will be 9am to 9pm Wednesday and Thursday October 22nd and 23rd, 2014 at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel with a family visitation on Thursday 7pm to 9pm.
Funeral services will be held 1pm Friday October 24, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Donald A Flinn officiating. Burial will follow at Ector Cemetery. Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.
Babe Ruth was born December 2, 1933, to the parentage of Idena and Henry Archie.
Babe was born in Limestone County, Texas. He was the baby of thirteen children. He attended public school in Groesbeck, TX until he had to go to work. He worked on a farm until he started picking cotton. He made his way to Odessa, Texas where he settled and made a life until his death. He became a Christian at an early age. He attended Rose of Sharon Baptist church until he was unable to attend.
He married Christine Johnson, whom he has been married to for forty-seven years.
He worked numerous years for Miether's Machine Shop and with ECISD. He loved church, the singing and the joy of being around others. He was always joking and took great pleasure in making others laugh. If you needed help with your program activities, funerals or any church functions he was always there to give you a blessing. He loved to dress, everything had to match, if he wasn't in his suits, he was also known for his Dickies overalls.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and majority of his sibling. Surviving wife, Christine sister, Edna (Aunt Sweet) Fields, Sons, Charles L. Archie (Janice), Ponte Vedra, FL.; Willie Ray Watkings, San Antonio, TX, Daughters, Lillie Martin & Rachel Guyton (James), both of Odessa. He had numerous grand-children, great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed.

Rev. O.J & Blanche Archie

Rev. O. J. Archie went home to see the Lord on Thursday morning, May 22, 2014. He was born in Athens, Texas, on February 18, 1931. Rev. O. J. Archie was Pastor Emeritus of the Macedonia Baptist Church from 1974 to 2009, celebrating 35 years of dedicated and committed leadership. The City of Midland is often recognized by its leaders and Rev. O. J. Archie's work and dedication to his congregation and beyond was a fine example of his leadership . During his 35 year tenure, he led not only in good times, but also tough times. He committed his life to sharing the blessings of the Lord to his church and the entire community of Midland. He married the love of his life, Blanche Green Archie, in 1964. He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin E Archie, and three brothers. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Blanche; his children, Lillie P. Archie, Gary L. Archie, and Michael R. Archie of Wichita, Falls, Texas, and Myra A. Brantley, Amelia K. Griffith, Lela M. McNary, James P. Archie, and Rayfield A. Cooks of Midland; and by 16 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Visitation will be at Macedonia Baptist Church, 201 S. Carver, Wednesday starting at 2:00 p.m. Family Tribute Service at 7:00 p.m. at Macedonia on Wednesday night. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 611 N Garfield. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Thomas Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Allison Cancer Center, in lieu of flowers.

Wilma Stotts (Archie)

Wilma Stotts 70, of Clovis, NM died Monday, January 1, 2018, at Covenent Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, January 6, 2017, at First Church of God in Christ. Cremation has taken place. 
Wilma was born September 5, 1947, in Clovis, NM to Nehemiah Archie Sr. and Ida May Large Archie. She married Jimmy Stotts. Wilma was a member of First Church of God in Christ. She was a mother, homemaker, housekeeper, and waitress. 
Survivors include: her five children; Willy Johnson Jr. of Clovis, NM, Billy Johnson of Alamogordo, NM, Deborah Pedescleaux of New Orleans, LA, Roy Goodman of Clovis, NM and Rickey Goodman of Clovis, NM, five siblings; Elnora Mitchell, Ronnie Archie Sr., Ida Archie-Bishop, Charles Archie Sr., and Paul Archie all of Clovis, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents; Nehemiah Sr. and Ida Archie, husband; Jimmy Stotts, and four siblings; Clarence Archie Sr., Carolyn Archie, Helen Stevenson, and Nehemiah "Sonny" Archie Jr.

Edna Fields (Archie)

Obituary:
Edna Fields was born on January 12, 1937 in Limestone County, Texas to the late Henry Archie and Idena Massey.  Edna, known as Sweet in the community, was the youngest of thirteen children. 

 

          At an early age she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and pursued a spiritual path carved out by God himself.  She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Nathanial Norman, second husband James Fields, and a total of thirteen siblings of which eleven survived: six brothers, Henry Archie, Nemiah Archie, Ruffus Archie, Joseph Archie, EJ Archie, Babe Ruth Archie and five sisters, Beatrice Jackson, Elnora Robinson, Ruby Archie, Inez West and Idena Williams.

 

           She was a 1957 graduate of Anderson High School in Mart, Texas and furthered her education in Odessa, Texas where she earned a certificate at Wilson Cosmetology School in 1958, accumulated 60 business credit hours at Bishop College in Dallas, Texas, graduated with a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) award at Odessa, College, and rounded off her educational experience with certificates in Child Development and Heath Unit Services.

 

Her professional experience includes 10 years of service as a special education teaching assistant with Ector County Independent School District, and 5 years of service with Mobile Oil in Dallas, Texas.  She dedicated 35 years of her life as an entrepreneur owning an operating one of the first black owned hair salon in Midland, “Touch of Class Beauty Salon”,  a mobile cosmetologist station with Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home, an Adult Foster Home, “Edna’s Adult Foster Home”, a storage and community office space rental site, “Fields Industrial Rental Services” as well as owning numerous residential and commercial properties in Midland and Ector county.   

 

She was recognized for her philanthropy and business expertise by the United Negro College Fund and the Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin in 2000 and 2007.

 

She was a good and faithful servant of the St. James Missionary Baptist Church and served in many capacities until her health declined.

 

Edna is survived by her three children:  two daughters, Shirley Jones (Freddie) of Midland, Texas, Fonda Carpio of Odessa, Texas; one son Willie McGee of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren: Dr. Katrieva Jones Munroe (Presley), Willie McGee IV, Freddie Jones Jr.(Tevayan), Kirby McGee, Crystal McGee, Alexandria Carpio, and a host of great grandchildren nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

Edna’s motto is, “You are never too old to learn!  You must forever educate yourself, because a MIND is a terrible thing to waste. “

Lillie Archie (Archie)

Wichita Falls - Lillie Pearl Archie, 69, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 in Wichita Falls, TX. United Regional Hospital. A private Memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 7th, 2021 at 3:00pm.
 

Lillie was born August 14, 1951 in Sweetwater, Texas to Rev. Otis Archie Sr. and Leola Harrison-Archie. She retired from Cryovac where she was a machine operator for 30 years. She loved to sing and care for the elderly. Later in life she enjoyed forging and discovering a healthier way to live. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was never ashamed to be called God's Babygirl.
 

Preceded in death by Grandmothers, Pearl Harrison & Lillie Bell - Archie; Parents, Rev. Otis Archie Sr. & Leola; Brothers, Kevin Archie & Gary Archie; Aunts Birdie Harrison, Alice Lewis(Billy Lewis) & Annette Wallace and Nieces, Leola Roberta Archie & LaDonna Archie.
 

Her survivors include Daughters, Kimlynn Archie(Tamika Archie), Christina Pocharasang; Grandson, Tashun Pocharasang; Brothers, Otis Archie, Jr. (Joe Morrow) and Michael Archie(Candace Archie); Dogs, Jessie Archie, and Rosco Pocharasang Godson, Vincent Thurman; Goddaughters, Diane Williams - Walker & Summer Hicks; Goddaughters, Brittany Sexton, Jordan Hull, De'Mia Walker & DéMari Walker. Along with a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

Charles Martin

ODESSA Rev. Charles Allen Martin (Pig), was born on August 25, 1949, in Odessa, Texas, to the parentage of Herbert Dale Martin and Robbie Lee Sutton. He served the lord at an early age. He even served as a pastor at the Bethlehem Baptist Church. He later placed his membership with the Shiloh Baptist Church under Rev. C.E. Sims until the lord called him home on Friday, September 27, 2013.
He attended public school at Carver Elementary and graduated from Ector High School in Odessa, TX. He received his associated degree at Odessa College.
He worked for MISD in the janitorial department and with the ECISD in the Special Education Department as a teacher's aide. He loved working with children, especially those who needed extra tender loving care.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leroy Brown, Buford Brown and Noon Hudson Jr.; a sister, Delora Kay Martin; and a daughter, Daetra Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Lillie Martin of Odessa, Texas; sons, James Earl Powell (Jolanda) of Fort Worth, Texas, Charldric Martin and Perry Gonzales of Odessa, Texas; a daughter, Tarina Carol Martin of Odessa, Texas; brothers, Euclid (Eugene) Brown Sr., Oscar Forman (Sheila) of Castro Valley, CA, Leroy Jessie and Rodney (Rod) Burditt.
His other children: Theresa Martin, Teashia Martin, Bruce Martin, Patrick Brown, Aundrea McDaniel and Thomas Hall.
Grandchildren: Janee Peterson, John Peterson, Kaetra Martin, Brittany Lewis, Shanquille Powell (Chassity), Jocoby Powell, Tryee Powell and Tyeisha Powell.
Great-grandchildren: Serenity Stephens, Janiah Peterson, Jeremiah Peterson and Maliah Powell, and many nieces and nephews and friends.
Services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013, at 11:00 am at Living Vision Ministries Church with Rev Charles Sims officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Peaceful Gardens Section of Ector County Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Thursday, October 3, 2013, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM at Martinez Funeral Home.
Services are under the direction of Martinez Funeral Home.

Carolyn Renee Thomas was born February 25, 1968 in Las Cruces, New Mexico to the parents of Howard and Joyce Thomas. She grew up in Albuquerque and attended West Mesa High School where she was active in African American studies. After high school, she relocated to Odessa, Texas and soon returned to Albuquerque where she worked at Honeywell for many years. Carolyn also worked for Oso-Bio and was currently employed at Delta Group Electronics. Carolyn was a mother to two children, Melodie Miranda and Ollie Marquan. She leaves 23 years of Cherished memories with her husband Ollie (Littleman) Barrs.
Carolyn was a go getter, a leader in many things and known to all as the life of the party. She loved to be with her family and was always ready to celebrate. Bargain shopping was her main hobby and she always knew where the sales were. She will be dearly missed.
Carolyn was proceeded in death by her mother, Joyce Marie and her father, Howard Thomas, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband Ollie Barrs, one daughter, Melodie Miranda (Eli), one son Ollie Marquan, and one granddaughter Annariah Renee, one brother, Howard Jr., (Kathy), three sisters, Elnora (Bobby), Brenda (Jimmy), Dinah, Maggie Powell (Godmother), and a host of nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Cynthia Patterson (Walker)

ODESSA - Cynthia L. Patterson was born on September 3, 1954 to George W. Woods and Johnnie M. Carter in Odessa, Texas. She passed away on July 23, 2017 in Odessa, Texas.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, July 31, 2017 at Greater St. John Baptist Church with Reverend Donald Flinn as Eulogist. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Martinez Funeral Home.

She attended School at ECISD and Aladdin Beauty College. Cynthia was a Beautician and Care Taker until her health failed her. She was a member and usher of Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by her husband Van Patterson, fathers, George Woods and James Carter, one brother Ronnie Carter, and two sisters Brenda Moore and Jessie Jean Woods.

She leaves to mourn, her mother Johnnie Mae Carter, one loving daughter; Toshia Patterson, two loving sons; Johnny and Quenton Patterson all of Odessa, TX, seven sisters; Doris Fay Smith (Paull) of Amarillo, TX, Felicia Grant of San Diego, CA, Sherley Taylor, Andy Carter, Carmen "Hopie" Yonke and Carlen Reeves of Odessa, TX, Carmen Bryant of Dallas, TX, two brothers; Darin Carter (Kim) of Virginia and Marshall Harris of Houston; twelve grandchildren: Jyrian, Kiana, Jayden, Jaylon, Paige, Brooklyn, Mya, Jessika, Jordan, Keauna, Kaitlyn, Quenton Jr., four great grandchildren: Alaysia, Nevaeh, Kayson, Jeremiah., three god children: Brielle Hall, Edgar Thompson, Trina Fay and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
